Product description
With the first issue in a series dedicated to famous architectural landmarks around the world, you’ll travel to Milan and Prague. And that’s not all—this exceptional silver coin is adorned with Tiffany glass.
The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Milan is an exceptionally vast and multi-layered structure. It was built between 1386 and 1892, and its decoration was thus created gradually. The building is dedicated to the mother of Jesus Christ, but it also honors other women from Christian mythology—for example, the tympanum above the main portal, which dates from the 17th century, depicts the birth of Eve… In contrast, the portal of which the Prague Basilica of St. Ludmila is proud is a typical example of Czech Neo-Gothic architecture from the late 19th century. It takes the form of a pointed arch with a tympanum featuring a figural relief of Christ with St. Ludmila and St. Wenceslas. The sculptural decoration emphasizes national symbolism and reflects the era’s effort to build on medieval Gothic architecture in a modern interpretation.
While the reverse side of the coin features the facade of Milan Cathedral, the obverse side depicts the entrance to the Prague Basilica. Instead of doors, both portals feature Tiffany-style stained glass. Since the coin is issued under license from the Cook Islands, the obverse side also bears their national coat of arms and the noominal value of 20 DOLLARS (NZD).
The mintage consists of 555 pieces placed in an elegant frame, in which you can display the coin.
