The otter is a remarkable mammal that has perfectly mastered life on the border between water and land. It has an elongated body, a strong tail, and thick waterproof fur, which protects it from the cold even in extreme conditions. It has webbed feet, which give it incredible speed and agility when swimming. It looks cute, but it is a predatory master hunter—it moves almost silently underwater, can hold its breath for several minutes, and its sensitive whiskers detect even the slightest ripple in the water. On land, it may seem a bit clumsy, but it is extremely persistent and adaptable. It often and happily plays—sliding on its belly or juggling pebbles. Although it enjoys itself this way, it is primarily training the skills necessary for survival. It is therefore often seen as a symbol of joy and the ability to find lightness even in challenging conditions…

The reverse side of the coin features a colorful depiction of a cheerful-looking otter hidden in the forest undergrowth. The obverse side, which depicts a wild forest, incorporates the attributes of the coin’s issuer—the national emblem of Mongolia and the nominal value of 500 TOGROG.
