The bear is a massive mammal that has managed to conquer nearly the entire world. Its strength commands respect, its intelligence surprises, but it is its adaptability that has made it a true master of survival in the harshest conditions. Bears can be found on the endless icy plains of the Arctic as well as in the arid sands of Asia’s Gobi Desert. In winter, many of them fall into hibernation to survive the lean season. They are omnivores and can make use of almost any food source—they hunt fish, gather berries, dig up roots, and enjoy feasting on carrion. Their strong paws with curved claws allow them to climb, dig, attack, and defend themselves. Although they appear clumsy, they can be surprisingly fast and are excellent swimmers. It is therefore no wonder that in various cultures, the bear is a symbol of power, courage, and endurance…

The reverse side of the coin features a colorful depiction of a good-natured-looking bear hidden in the forest undergrowth. The obverse side, which depicts a woodland, incorporates the attributes of the coin’s issuer—the national emblem of Mongolia and the nominal value of 500 TOGROG.
