Product description

A unique silver coin from CIT Coin Invest, featuring a genuine prehistoric fossil, commemorates the fearsome dinosaur known as the carcharodontosaurus.

Carcharodontosaurus was discovered in 1912 by Czech-born Richard Markgraf, but the fossils were destroyed during the bombing of World War II. Others were not found until 1995, and the genus of this giant predatory dinosaur, which lived in North Africa 100 million years ago, is therefore not very well known. That doesn’t mean it isn’t interesting, though! It reached a length of 13 meters and weighed 8 tons, which ranked it among the largest land predators of all time. Its skull alone measured one and a half meters and was full of sharp teeth. That’s why it was given a name that can be translated as “lizard with shark teeth.” Thanks to its impressive size and sharp weapons, the carcharodontosaurus dared to take on even the largest prey. It particularly enjoyed feasting on sauropods—giant herbivores with long necks…

The reverse side of the coin features the head of a carcharodontosaurus with its jaws wide open. What makes this coin truly unique is an authentic fragment of its tooth, which is embedded in the relief. On the obverse side of the coin, you will find a predatory dinosaur hatching from an egg hidden in foliage. Since the coin is issued under license from the Cook Islands, the obverse side also bears a portrait of King Charles III and the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD).

The mintage consists of 999 pieces placed in an elegant frame, in which you can display the coin.
