Product description

Silver 500-crown coin Jiří Trnka proof

For the period 2011–2015, the Czech National Bank prepared a new series of commemorative silver five-hundred-crown coins with a motif of prominent representatives of the Czech culture.

The second coin of the series is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of birth of creative artist Jiří Trnka, cartoon-film maker and director. The design for the coin was created by MgA Josef Oplištil.

Czech Mint strikes coins for CNB of fine 0.925 silver. Standard and proof quality coins differ in the surface finish and the edge.  As opposed to standard quality where the edge of the coin is reeded, proof quality coins have highly polished field and matted relief, while the edge is smooth and lettered. The diameter of the coin is 40 mm, it weighs 25 g and is 2.55 mm thick.

The obverse side of the coin is decorated with a motif of one of Trnka’s fairy-tale characters. In circumscription it is complemented with the text “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA“ and the nominal value of the coin 500 CZK.

The reverse side features the effigy of the artist and years 1912–2012, as well as the artist’s name Jiří Trnka. Each coin comes with a catalogue card containing description of the coin and its three-dimensional depiction.
