Product description

The surface of the classic circulation coins you encounter every day is matte and damage-resistant, ensuring their long lifespan. However, Czech metal currency is not only a medium of exchange, but many people appreciate its artistic craftsmanship and therefore include it in numismatic collections. For these purposes, a special shiny variant of the currency is produced in proof quality. This luxurious circulation coin set, issued in collaboration between the Czech National Bank and the Czech Mint, bears the year 2026.

The word “proof” means “evidence” in English. In the past, this term referred to the first minted coins from a new series, which were intended to serve as proof that they met all technical and aesthetic requirements and that mass production could begin. These test samples were very rare and therefore sought after by collectors. The term “proof” is still used in numismatics today, but its meaning has changed. Coins labeled as such continue to serve as proof, but not of readiness for mass production. Instead of this, they demonstrate the mint’s ability to strike coins of the highest possible quality, characterized by a flawless mirror finish on the coin’s surface. In Czech, you may also encounter the alternative term “top quality.” In contrast, coins with a matte surface are designated as “standard” or “regular quality.”

In addition to six circulation coins bearing the year 2026, the set also includes a silver commemorative medal. This minting commemorates the immortal work of the incomparable Czechoslovak medalist Otakar Španiel.

The set is accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, produced by the State Printing Office, and stored in an elegant wooden case.
