Gold 3-ducat of st. Wenceslas with gold certificate 2026 proof
Product description
St. Wenceslas ducats play an extraordinary role in the history of Czech numismatics. In 2026, the Czech Mint added a new 3-ducat gold coin to the series, depicting this great figure as a knight.
Opponents of Prince Wenceslas, among whom we would find his cruel mother Drahomíra and his jealous brother Boleslaus, sought to portray their ruler as a soft-hearted, sentimental monk and a cowardly lackey of the German lords. It is true that he was sensitive - he visited the sick, clothed the naked, welcomed travelers, and fed the hungry - and it is documented that he pragmatically submitted to the German Empire to preserve the sovereignty of the Czech lands. In no way, however, was he a weakling. He was educated and pious, but he was not afraid to take up the sword and take decisive action against his enemies. He was, in short, a true medieval knight. On the battlefield, for example, Prince Radslav had to bow before him. “One castle, called Kouřim, at that time still powerful in terms of its population, rose up and, together with the prince who lived there, attempted to resist this saint. But when enough people had been killed on both sides, everyone agreed that only the two dukes should fight each other, and whoever won would rule. When the dukes advanced toward each other, intending to do battle, the God of Heaven showed the Duke of Kouřim a heavenly vision: namely, that Saint Wenceslas had the radiant image of the Holy Cross on his forehead. As soon as he saw this, he threw his weapon far away, threw himself at his feet, and declared that “no one can overcome him whom God aids with such a sign,”” says Kristián’s legend. The fact that Wenceslas was not only a saint but also a warrior is also evidenced by the nature of his relics, which have survived to this day - namely, a chain mail shirt, a helmet, and a sword…
The obverse side of the gold three-ducat coin, designed by medalist Veronika Prokopová, DiS., features Wenceslas as a knight in full armor, riding a horse with a lance in his hand. The inscriptions on the obverse side bear SAINT WENCESLAS, KNIGHT, 3-DUCAT. The reverse side of the coin features a flaming eagle framed by the year 2026 and the text of the famous hymn – DO NOT LET US OR OUR DESCENDANTS PERISH.
Each coin is accompanied by a unique certificate coated with a layer of gold.
